1. Antecedents are person, place, thing or event that happens before a behaviour takes place that encourages you to perform that behaviour.

2. Antecedents only set the stage for behaviour or performance - they don’t control it.

3. Antecedents or activators such as safety signs, education/training, rules and policies, come before behaviour and are said to direct behaviour.
