1.4 Major Workplace Hazard

[Scene: Liza and John walk through the site, stopping briefly at different areas. The camera follows as they move, with visuals of each hazard appearing as they speak. Background: light machinery sounds.]

John:
Liza, I know there are all kinds of hazards on site, but which ones are the big ones we really need to watch out for?

Liza:
There are a few high-risk hazards we always keep at the top of the list. Let me give you quick examples so they stick.

[1. Work at Height – Cut to ladder or scaffold area]
Liza:
Work at height – like using a ladder to fix a light without a harness? One slip, and it’s a serious fall.

[2. Confined Space – Cut to a tank or narrow entry]
Liza:
Confined space – entering a storage tank without checking oxygen levels can be fatal.

[3. Hot Work – Cut to welding scene]
Liza:
Hot work – welding near flammable material? That’s a fire waiting to happen.

[4. Rotating Equipment – Cut to exposed motor belt]
Liza:
Rotating equipment – loose clothing near a spinning shaft can pull someone in instantly.

[5. Excavations – Cut to open trench]
Liza:
Excavations – standing near an unshored trench wall? It could collapse with no warning.

[6. Electrical Shock / Arc Flash – Cut to electrical panel]
Liza:
Electrical shock or arc flash – opening a live panel without proper isolation can result in deadly burns.

[7. Chemical Handling – Cut to labeled chemical drums]
Liza:
Chemical handling – mixing the wrong chemicals without PPE can cause toxic fumes.

[8. Pressure Vessels / Gas Cylinders – Cut to gas bottle storage]
Liza:
Pressure vessels and gas cylinders – dropping a compressed gas cylinder can turn it into a rocket.

[9. Molten Metal – Cut to foundry or pour scene]
Liza:
Molten metal – a splash on skin or water contact can cause severe burns or explosions.

[Final Scene: Back to John and Liza walking]

John:
Okay, that’s a serious list. One wrong move in any of those, and it’s real trouble.

Liza:
Exactly. These aren’t “maybe” hazards—these are life-changing if ignored. That’s why awareness and controls matter more than anything.
